Ground
Aeration
Pitch compaction is a big issue on playing surfaces. The degree of compaction is dependent on the soil surface. For example heavier soils like clay will generally have greater compaction issues compared to sandy or silt soils.
Compaction can lead to waterlogging & ponding and the soil will remain in a saturated state for longer leading to loss of grass cover. As well as creating bare patches it also leaves the surface susceptible to weed invasion.
Aeration is the key to improving the structure of the soil to allow water to drain properly and the grass roots to get air to grow and be healthy. We use Shockwave and Verti-Drain aeration depending on the surface type to reduce compaction and improve drainage.
Verti-Drain
Aeration
Verti-Drain Aeration is a type of hollow core aeration where the machine removes hollow soil cores from the soil.
This allows more air into the soil to promote better grass root growth and also allows the ground to drain more freely. The hollow core also allows top dressings to be more effectively distributed further down into the soil layers.
The video below, from the Redexim Verti-Drain website, shows how the machine works.
Shockwave
Aeration
Shockwave Aeration is a type of linear soil decompaction.
Blades slice vertically down into the ground thereby allowing air down into the soil structure and improving the aeration of the soil & relieving soil compaction. The video below, from the Imants Shockwave website, shows how the machine works.
